San Pedro Polished Red is identified by its deep red (guinda) slip that is usually polished to a high gloss. It occurs in numerous subtypes, tho most common of which include Sencillo, Incised, Black on Red, Elegante, and Incised Graphite on Red. This last subtype is usually found in the form of long-handled sahumadores (incense burners). San Pedro Polished Red occurs throughout the Postclassic, although more refined dating has not been well established. The Incised Graphite on Red subtype is most common in the Early and Late Cholollan periods (1200-1520 CE).
