Submitted by mccaffer on Wed, 03/11/2009 - 03:46.

Ocotlan Red Rim is identified by a red painted band that occurs on the rim above a polished orange slip.  In its basic subtype (Sencillo) it is otherwise undecorated.  In can also occur in several other subtypes, including Incised, Banded, Elegante, Banded Elegante, and Cristina Matte, distinguished by variations in decorative techniques and degrees.  Ocotlan Red Rim is diagnostic of the Middle and Late Tlachihuatepetl phases.
