Aquiahuac Burnt Orange Polychrome is identified by a darker ‘burnt orange’ slip over a white base coat. Painted decoration includes black and red, but usually with a broad red band on the interior base. Another common element is a panel of diagonal lines on the exterior rim. Subtypes include Sencillo, Santa Catarina, Universidad, and Zocalo, defined on the basis of degree of elaboration and characteristic motifs. Aquiahuac Polychrome is diagnostic of the Early Cholollan period (1200-1400 CE).
